It is disappointing to see the government has removed the SEAI grant of €3,800 on Electric and Plug in Hybrid cars effective almost immediately.
The vehicles themselves are not exactly cheap starting off and this only reduces a company’s ability to be green and reduce emissions.
There is still a small window of time to get a grant secured on one of these cars if it is in stock and can be registered before the end of the year.
There will still be a VRT grant of €5000 Applicable to all fully Electric Vehicles it is just the SEAI grant of €3800 that is now being removed.
Their thought process is the fact that 0% rate of BIK is enough incentive to drive growth in this sector for the business user. The reality is this will probably just slow that growth down again until the vehicles themselves start to come down in price significantly
Anyone thinking about an electric or plug in option should act now to avoid disappointment.
